When running, weight training, cycling, or simply just walking it is crucial to maintain the correct alignment of a persons normal biomechanics. Biomechanics is simply a term describing the application of mechanical principals to biological systems. Therefore it describes how certain unwanted forces put onto a system can cause distortion, inefficient movement and function. When linking it with the human body, altered biomechanics can result in progressed wear and tear of joints due to uneven pressure, collapsed, mal aligned joints and muscle imbalances which all lead to reduced function, progressive wear and tear and pain.
At Vitality we have a highly trained Specialist Clinician who specifically deals with people with altered biomechanics. The treatment for this is vast, it can be as simple as exercising a certain muscle group to correct an imbalance from progressing, right through to an assessment of the persons movement with the RSscan Footscan showing the forces and pressures exerted through the feet up the biomechanical chain and the use of the state of the art Quintic system in being able to slow the movement down to 300 frames per second to show where the main cause of the problems are.
People who suffer from recurrent injuries are the people who would benefit most from a biomechanical assessment as it is more often the case that the symptoms are treated not the actual cause. Therefore if the cause of the problem is never diagnosed or corrected then the resulting symptoms will persist and keep occurring.
Most lower limb and spinal biomechanical symptoms can be corrected with custom made orthotics or insoles which are tailored to each individual. If a person has a biomechanical problem then you need a biomechanical solution. Orthotics can completely correct the way in which the joints in the foot are positioned, therefore stopping any further biomechanical problems occurring up throughout the body.
Orthotics can be used to treat a wide variety of diagnoses, including:
It is an important factor to understand that the way a person stands is exaggerated when walking, further to running. It is also exaggerated when lifting any weight. Therefore if you are symptomatic when you are standing you are further progressing the problem when walking – running and / or lifting weights.
If you think you may have a biomechanical problem which is giving you recurrent injuries or strains, or if you think you may require orthotics please contact our specialist at the Health Club. Vitality Gym Members also get a discount on the Assessment.
