The term Endermologie is derived from the French term meaning ‘Through the dermis’. It was first established in 1985 in France by Louis-Paul Guitay. The designer; (Louis-Paul Guitay) was unfortunate to be in a severe car accident and suffered extensive tissue damage from burns. He was undergoing intensive treatment to loosen and treat the scars caused by the accident by a number of different therapists which included rolling manual massage. Louis-Paul Guitay found that his manual treatment varied considerably in amount, quality and intensity so he designed a machine that would provide many massage techniques at the highest quality with varying intensity for different areas. It is documented that while treating people using Endermologie for burns and tissue adhesions it was evident that it reduced the appearance of cellulite, improved skin tone and enhanced body contouring. The procedure like so many other beauty treatments started within the clinical field and successfully became very popular within the aesthetic beauty industry also.
Cellulite is caused by areas of fat which are stored in adipocytes (fat cells within the hypodermis) which increase in size and enlarge. Cellulite affects 90% of women over the age of 20. It is described as small pockets of dimpled, localised skin. This is because the enlarged swollen fat cells alter the connective fibres distorting them creating an ‘orange peel’ effect commonly associated with the condition. This distortion in the connective tissue causes a reduction in circulation which in turn creates a build up of toxins and congestion of the connective gel which increases the severity of the cellulite.
Endermologie treatment utilises a low pressure vacuum to massage the cutaneous and subcutaneous layers of skin between two motorised rollers. Depending on the intensity of the treatment and the area being treated, it moves the skin via the vacuum into a fold, hump or pleat. This action pinches on the fat cells, reducing the structures within them and increases the circulation to the area by improving the venous system. This in turn increases the lymphatic system and encourages blood, nutrients and oxygen to flow into the previous depleted cellulitic tissues and allows the drainage of waste products and water retention too. This action also stretches the connective tissue, therefore, reducing the ‘orange peel’ effect, contouring the body shape and creating a smooth flawless appearance. Superficially, at the epidermic level, Endermologie treatment removes all the dead skin cells by the exfoliation action therefore leaving the treated area looking fresh, youthful and radiant.
At Vitality, the treatment is carried out by certified Endermologists who are very experienced within this field. A consultation form will be filled out and will be discussed with the client by one of our Specialists. They will be able to answer any questions, inform you of how Endermologie treatment works and suggest ways in which to maximise your outcome. During the treatment, the client will wear an Endermologie body stocking. The Endermologist will use a specific machine head depending on the area being treated which creates the vacuum and rolling effect on the skin.
